It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed one day and said the salam after two rak'ahs, then he left. Dhul-Shimalain caught up with him and said: O Messenger of Alah, has the prayer been shortened or did you forget? He said: The prayer has not been shortened, and I did not forget. He said: Yes, by the One Who sent you with the truth. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Is Dhul-Yadain speaking the truth? They said: 'Yes.' So he led the people in praying two rak'ahs.

أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي أَنَسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ صَلَّى يَوْمًا فَسَلَّمَ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَأَدْرَكَهُ ذُو الشِّمَالَيْنِ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ،‏‏‏‏ أَنُقِصَتِ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَمْ تُنْقَصِ الصَّلَاةُ وَلَمْ أَنْسَ ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بَلَى،‏‏‏‏ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ أَصَدَقَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ ،‏‏‏‏ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ،‏‏‏‏ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ .

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک دن نماز پڑھائی تو آپ نے دو ہی رکعت پر سلام پھیر دیا، پھر جانے لگے تو آپ کے پاس ذوالشمالین ۱؎ آئے، اور کہنے لگے: اللہ کے رسول! کیا نماز کم کر دی گئی ہے یا آپ بھول گئے ہیں؟ تو آپ نے فرمایا:  نہ تو نماز کم کی گئی ہے اور نہ ہی میں بھولا ہوں ، اس پر انہوں نے عرض کیا: قسم ہے اس ذات کی جس نے آپ کو حق کے ساتھ بھیجا ہے، ان دونوں میں سے ضرور کوئی ایک بات ہوئی ہے، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے  ( لوگوں سے )  پوچھا:  کیا ذوالیدین سچ کہہ رہے ہیں؟  لوگوں نے کہا: جی ہاں، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے لوگوں کو دو رکعتیں اور پڑھائیں۔
