Ibn Umar told them that : A man asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)about prayers at night, and he said: Two by two, then if one of you fears that dawn will come, let him pray witr with one.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يُونُسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْحُرِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا نَافِعٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ أَخْبَرَهُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنْ خَشِيَ أَحَدُكُمُ الصُّبْحَ فَلْيُوتِرْ بِوَاحِدَةٍ .

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہم کہتے ہیں کہ   ایک شخص نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے رات کی نماز کے بارے میں پوچھا تو آپ نے فرمایا:  دو دو رکعت ہے، لیکن اگر تم میں سے کوئی صبح ہو جانے کا خطرہ محسوس کرے، تو ایک رکعت پڑھ کر وتر کر لے ۔
