It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said; The Messenger of Allah said: 'The deceased is punished due to his family's weeping over him; Mention of that was made to 'Aishah and she said: 'He is wrong; rather the Prophet passed by a grave and said: The occupant of this grave is being punished and his family are weeping for him. Then she recited: And no bearer of burdens shall bear another's burden.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ آدَمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ هِشَامٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ لَيُعَذَّبُ بِبُكَاءِ أَهْلِهِ عَلَيْهِ فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِعَائِشَةَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ وَهِلَ إِنَّمَا مَرَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى قَبْرٍ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ صَاحِبَ الْقَبْرِ لَيُعَذَّبُ وَإِنَّ أَهْلَهُ يَبْكُونَ عَلَيْهِ ،‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ قَرَأَتْ وَلا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَى سورة الأنعام آية 164.

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: میت کو اس کے گھر والوں کے رونے کے سبب عذاب دیا جاتا ہے ، اسے ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے ذکر کیا گیا تو انہوں نے کہا: انہیں ( ابن عمر کو ) غلط فہمی ہوئی ہے ( اصل واقعہ یوں ہے ) رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ایک قبر کے پاس سے گزرے تو کہا: اس قبر والے کو عذاب دیا جا رہا ہے، اور اس کے گھر والے اس پر رو رہے ہیں، پھر انہوں نے یہ آیت پڑھی: «ولا تزر وازرة وزر أخرى» کوئی بوجھ اٹھانے والا کسی دوسرے کا بوجھ نہیں اٹھائے گا ( فاطر: ۱۸ ) ۔
