أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ حَمْزَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيَّ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ فِي السَّفَرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَانَ رَجُلًا يَسْرُدُ الصِّيَامَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنْ شِئْتَ فَصُمْ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَأَفْطِرْ .

Urdu Translation

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی الله عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ   حمزہ اسلمی رضی اللہ عنہ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سفر میں روزہ رکھنے کے بارے میں پوچھا وہ ایک ایسے آدمی تھے جو مسلسل روزہ رکھتے تھے، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اگر چاہو تو رکھو، اور اگر چاہو تو نہ رکھو“۔

English Translation

It was narrated from Aishah that Hamzah Al-Aslami asked the Messenger of Allah about fasting while traveling as he was a man who used to fast continually. He said: If you wish then fast and if you wish then do not fast.
