أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ زُرَارَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كُنْتُ مَعَ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَهُوَ عِنْدَ عُثْمَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ:‏‏‏‏ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى فِتْيَةٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ:‏‏‏‏ فَلَمْ أَفْهَمْ فِتْيَةً كَمَا أَرَدْتُ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ ذَا طَوْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلْيَتَزَوَّجْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّهُ أَغَضُّ لِلْبَصَرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَحْصَنُ لِلْفَرْجِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَنْ لَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَالصَّوْمُ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ .

Urdu Translation

علقمہ کہتے ہیں کہ   میں ابن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ تھا اور وہ عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس تھے تو عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نوجوانوں ( کی ایک ٹولی ) کے پاس پہنچے اور ( ان سے ) کہا: ”جو تم میں مالدار ہو ۱؎ تو اسے چاہیئے کہ وہ شادی کر لے کیونکہ اس سے نگاہ نیچی رکھنے میں زیادہ مدد ملتی ہے ۲؎، اور نکاح کر لینے سے شرمگاہ کی زیادہ حفاظت ہوتی ہے ۳؎، اور جو مالدار نہ ہو بیوی کے کھانے پینے کا خرچہ نہ اٹھا سکتا ہو تو وہ روزے رکھے کیونکہ اس کے لیے روزہ شہوت کا توڑ ہے ۴؎، ( اس حدیث میں «فتیۃ» کا لفظ آیا ہے، اس کے متعلق ) ابوعبدالرحمٰن نسائی کہتے ہیں: اس کا مفہوم جیسا میں سمجھنا چاہتا تھا سمجھ نہ سکا۔

English Translation

Narrated 'Alqamah: It was narrated that 'Alqamah said: I was with Ibn Mas'ud while he was with 'Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, and 'Uthman said: 'The Messenger of Allah came out to some fityah (young men)--Abu 'AbdurRahman said, 'I did not understand (the word) fityah as I would want'-- and said: 'Whoever among you can afford it, let him get married, for it is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding chastity, and whoever cannot, then fasting will be a restraint (wija') for him.'
