It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the wife of Thabit bin Qais came to the Prophet and said: O Messenger of Allah, I do not find any fault with Thabit bin Qais regarding his attitude or religious commitment, but I hate Kufr after becoming Muslim. The Messenger of Allah said: Will you give him back his garden? She said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah said: Take back the garden and divorce her once.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَزْهَرُ بْنُ جَمِيلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ امْرَأَةَ ثَابِتِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثَابِتُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ أَمَا إِنِّي مَا أَعِيبُ عَلَيْهِ فِي خُلُقٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا دِينٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَكِنِّي أَكْرَهُ الْكُفْرَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ أَتَرُدِّينَ عَلَيْهِ حَدِيقَتَهُ ؟ قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ اقْبَلِ الْحَدِيقَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَطَلِّقْهَا تَطْلِيقَةً .

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی الله عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ   ثابت بن قیس کی بیوی نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آئیں اور انہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے کہا: میں ثابت بن قیس کے اخلاق اور دین میں کسی کمی و کوتاہی کا الزام نہیں لگاتی لیکن میں اسلام میں رہتے ہوئے کفر و ناشکری کو ناپسند کرتی ہوں ۱؎ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”کیا تم اسے اس کا باغ واپس کر دو گی؟“ ( وہ باغ انہوں نے انہیں مہر میں دیا تھا ) انہوں نے کہا: جی ہاں، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ثابت بن قیس سے فرمایا: ”اپنا باغ لے لو اور انہیں ایک طلاق دے دو“۔
