أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ اشْتَرَيْتُ بَرِيرَةَ فَاشْتَرَطَ أَهْلُهَا وَلَاءَهَا،‏‏‏‏ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَعْتِقِيهَا،‏‏‏‏ فَإِنَّ الْوَلَاءَ لِمَنْ أَعْطَى الْوَرِقَ ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ فَأَعْتَقْتُهَا،‏‏‏‏ قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ فَدَعَاهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،‏‏‏‏ فَخَيَّرَهَا مِنْ زَوْجِهَا،‏‏‏‏ فَاخْتَارَتْ نَفْسَهَا،‏‏‏‏ وَكَانَ زَوْجُهَا حُرًّا.

Urdu Translation

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ   میں نے بریرہ رضی اللہ عنہا کو خریدا تو ان کے گھر والوں نے ولاء ( وراثت ) کی شرط لگائی، میں نے اس کا ذکر نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے کیا، تو آپ نے فرمایا: ”اسے آزاد کر دو، کیونکہ ولاء ( وراثت ) اس کا حق ہے جس نے درہم ( روپیہ ) دیا ہے“، چنانچہ میں نے انہیں آزاد کر دیا، پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے انہیں بلایا اور انہیں ان کے شوہر کے بارے میں اختیار دیا ۱؎ تو بریرہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے اپنے شوہر کی زوجیت میں نہ رہنے کو ترجیح دی، حالانکہ ان کے شوہر آزاد تھے ۲؎۔

English Translation

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: I bought Barirah and her masters stipulated that her loyalty (Wala) should be to them, I mentioned that to the Prophet and he said: 'Set her free, and loyalty belongs to the one who pays the silver.''' She said: so I set her free. The Messenger of Allah called her and gave her the choice regarding her husband, and she chose herself. Her husband was a free man.
