It was narrated from Nafi that: a woman used to borrow jewelry during the time of the Messenger of Allah. She borrowed some jewelry, collected it and kept it. The Messenger of Allah said: Let this woman repent and give back what she has, several times, but she did not do that, so he ordered that her hand be cut off.

أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْخَلِيلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ إِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نَافِعٍ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً كَانَتْ تَسْتَعِيرُ الْحُلِيَّ فِي زَمَانِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَاسْتَعَارَتْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ حُلِيًّا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَجَمَعَتْهُ ثُمَّ أَمْسَكَتْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ لِتَتُبْ هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَتُؤَدِّي مَا عِنْدَهَا ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مِرَارًا فَلَمْ تَفْعَلْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَمَرَ بِهَا فَقُطِعَتْ.

نافع کہتے ہیں کہ   ایک عورت رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے زمانے میں زیورات مانگ لیتی تھی، چنانچہ اس نے زیور مانگا اور اسے اکٹھا کر کے رکھ لیا، تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اس عورت کو توبہ کرنی چاہیئے اور جو کچھ اس کے پاس ہے، اسے ادا کرنا چاہیئے، کئی بار ( کہا ) لیکن اس نے ایسا نہیں کیا تو آپ نے حکم دیا اور اس کا ہاتھ کاٹ دیا گیا“۔
