أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَانَ جَعَلَ فَصَّهُ فِي بَاطِنِ كَفِّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَطَرَحَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَطَرَحَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ،‏‏‏‏ فَكَانَ يَخْتِمُ بِهِ وَلَا يَلْبَسُهُ .

Urdu Translation

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے سونے کی ایک انگوٹھی بنوائی اور اس کا نگینہ ہتھیلی کی طرف رکھا، تو لوگوں نے بھی سونے کی انگوٹھیاں بنوائیں، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنی انگوٹھی اتار دی تو لوگوں نے بھی اپنی انگوٹھیاں اتار دیں، اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے چاندی کی انگوٹھی بنوائی، جس سے آپ ( خطوط پر ) مہر لگاتے تھے اور اس کو پہنتے نہیں تھے۔

English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that: The Messenger of Allah [SAW] put on a ring of gold, and he used to wear its stone (Fass) next to his palm. Then the people started to wear rings of gold too. Then the Messenger of Allah [SAW] threw it away, and the people threw their rings away too. Then he took a ring of silver and he used to seal letters with it, but he did not wear it.
