أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ كَانَ بَيْنَهُمْ شَيْءٌ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِيُصْلِحَ بَيْنَهُمْ فِي أُنَاسٍ مَعَهُ فَحُبِسَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَحَانَتِ الْأُولَى فَجَاءَ بِلَالٌ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ حُبِسَ وَقَدْ حَانَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَهَلْ لَكَ أَنْ تَؤُمَّ النَّاسَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ إِنْ شِئْتَ فَأَقَامَ بِلَالٌ وَتَقَدَّمَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَكَبَّرَ بِالنَّاسِ وَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْشِي فِي الصُّفُوفِ حَتَّى قَامَ فِي الصَّفِّ وَأَخَذَ النَّاسُ فِي التَّصْفِيقِ وَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ لَا يَلْتَفِتُ فِي صَلَاتِهِ فَلَمَّا أَكْثَرَ النَّاسُ الْتَفَتَ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْمُرُهُ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ فَرَفَعَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَدَيْهِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَرَجَعَ الْقَهْقَرَى وَرَاءَهُ حَتَّى قَامَ فِي الصَّفِّ فَتَقَدَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَا لَكُمْ حِينَ نَابَكُمْ شَيْءٌ فِي الصَّلَاةِ أَخَذْتُمْ فِي التَّصْفِيقِ إِنَّمَا التَّصْفِيقُ لِلنِّسَاءِ مَنْ نَابَهُ شَيْءٌ فِي صَلَاتِهِ فَلْيَقُلْ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَسْمَعُهُ أَحَدٌ حِينَ يَقُولُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ إِلَّا الْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ لِلنَّاسِ حِينَ أَشَرْتُ إِلَيْكَ . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مَا كَانَ يَنْبَغِي لِابْنِ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.

Urdu Translation

سہل بن سعد رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ بات پہنچی کہ بنی عمرو بن عوف کے لوگوں میں کچھ اختلاف ہو گیا ہے تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنے ساتھ کچھ لوگوں کو لے کر نکلے تاکہ آپ ان میں صلح کرا دیں، تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اسی معاملہ میں مشغول رہے یہاں تک کہ ظہر کا وقت آپ پہنچا ۱؎ تو بلال رضی اللہ عنہ ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس آئے، اور کہنے لگے: ابوبکر! رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم  ( ابھی تک )  نہیں آ سکے ہیں، اور نماز کا وقت ہو چکا ہے تو کیا آپ لوگوں کی امامت کر دیں گے؟ انہوں نے کہا: ہاں کر دوں گا اگر تم چاہو، چنانچہ بلال رضی اللہ عنہ نے تکبیر کہی تو ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ آگے بڑھے، اور اللہ اکبر کہہ کر لوگوں کو نماز پڑھانی شروع کر دی، اسی دوران رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تشریف لے آئے، اور آپ صفوں میں چلتے ہوئے آئے یہاں تک کہ ( پہلی )  صف میں آ کر کھڑے ہو گئے، اور  ( رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو دیکھ کر )  لوگ تالیاں بجانے لگے، اور ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ اپنی نماز میں ادھر ادھر متوجہ نہیں ہوتے تھے، تو جب لوگوں نے کثرت سے تالیاں بجائیں تو وہ متوجہ ہوئے، تو کیا دیکھتے ہیں کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم موجود ہیں، تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے انہیں اشارے سے حکم دیا کہ وہ نماز پڑھائیں، اس پر ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ نے اپنے ہاتھوں کو اٹھا کر اللہ تعالیٰ کا شکر ادا کیا، پھر وہ الٹے پاؤں اپنے پیچھے لوٹ کر صف میں کھڑے ہو گئے، تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم آگے بڑھے اور جا کر لوگوں کو نماز پڑھائی، اور جب آپ نماز سے فارغ ہوئے تو لوگوں کو مخاطب کر کے فرمایا:  لوگو! تمہیں کیا ہو گیا ہے؟ جب تمہیں نماز میں کوئی بات پیش آتی ہے تو تالیاں بجانے لگتے ہو حالانکہ تالی بجانا عورتوں کے لیے مخصوص ہے، جسے اس کی نماز میں کوئی بات پیش آئے وہ سبحان اللہ کہے، کیونکہ جب کوئی سبحان اللہ کہے گا تو جو بھی اسے سنے گا اس کی طرف ضرور متوجہ ہو گا  ( پھر آپ ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کی طرف متوجہ ہوئے )  اور فرمایا: ابوبکر! جب میں نے تمہیں اشارہ کر دیا تھا تو تم نے لوگوں کو نماز کیوں نہیں پڑھائی؟ ، تو ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ نے جواب دیا؟ ابوقحافہ کے بیٹے کو یہ زیب نہیں دیتا کہ وہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے سامنے نماز پڑھائے ۲؎۔

English Translation

It was narrated from Sahl bin Sa'd that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) heard that there was a dispute among Banu 'Amr bin 'Awf, so he went to them with some other people to reconcile between them. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was delayed there, and the time for Zuhr came. Bilal came to Abu Bakr and said to him: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has been delayed (there) and the time for prayer has come, will you lead the people in prayer? Abu Bakr said: 'Yes, if you wish.' Bilal said the Iqamah and Abu Bakr went forward and said the Takbir for the people. Then the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) came, passing through the rows (of praying people) and stood in the (first) row and the people started clapping. Abu Bakr would never glance sideways in his prayer but when the people clapped so much he looked back and (ﷺ)Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) gestured to him to carry on praying. Aha Bakr raised his hands praising Allah the Mighty and Sublime, and retreated till he reached the (first) row. Then the Messenger ofAllah(ﷺ) went forward and led the people in the prayer. When he completed the prayer he turned to face the people and said: '0 people, why did you start clapping when something unusual happened to you in the prayer? Clapping is only for women. So whoever among you comes across something in the prayer should say: 'Subhan Allah' for there is none who will not turn round when they hear him saying Subhan Allah. 0 Abu Bakr! What prevented you from leading the people in the prayer when I gestured to you to do so?' Abu Bakr replied: 'It is not fitting for the son of Abu Quhafah to lead the prayer in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).'
