Usamah bin Zaid said: “I asked Tawus about performing voluntary prayer while traveling. Al-Hasan bin Muslim bin Yannaq was sitting with him and he said: ‘Tawus told me that he heard Ibn ‘Abbas say: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) enjoined prayer while a resident and prayer when one is traveling. We used to pray when we were residents both before and after (the obligatory prayer), and we used to pray both before and after (the obligatory prayer) when we were traveling.’”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ خَلَّادٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَأَلْتُ طَاوُسًا عَنِ السُّبْحَةِ فِي السَّفَرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ يَنَّاقٍ جَالِسٌ عِنْدَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ حَدَّثَنِي طَاوُسٌ أَنَّه سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ فَرَضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْحَضَرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَصَلَاةَ السَّفَرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكُنَّا نُصَلِّي فِي الْحَضَرِ قَبْلَهَا وَبَعْدَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكُنَّا نُصَلِّي فِي السَّفَرِ قَبْلَهَا وَبَعْدَهَا .

اسامہ بن زید کہتے ہیں کہ   میں نے طاؤس سے سفر میں نفل پڑھنے کے بارے سوال کیا، اور اس وقت ان کے پاس حسن بن مسلم بھی بیٹھے ہوئے تھے، تو حسن نے کہا: طاؤس نے مجھ سے بیان کیا ہے کہ انہوں نے ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کو کہتے ہوئے سنا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے حضر اور سفر دونوں کی نماز فرض کی، تو ہم حضر میں فرض سے پہلے اور اس کے بعد سنتیں پڑھتے، اور سفر میں بھی پہلے اور بعد نماز پڑھتے تھے۔
