It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Allah is Witr and He loves the odd (numbered), so perform Witr, O people of the Qur’an.” A Bedouin said: ‘What is the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying?’ He said: ‘That is not for you or your companions.’”

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَفْصٍ الْأَبَّارُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْتِرُوا يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ:‏‏‏‏ مَا يَقُولُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَيْسَ لَكَ وَلَا لِأَصْحَابِكَ.

عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: بیشک اللہ طاق ( یکتا و بے نظیر ) ہے، طاق کو پسند فرماتا ہے، لہٰذا اے قرآن والو! وتر پڑھا کرو، ایک اعرابی ( دیہاتی ) نے کہا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کیا فرماتے ہیں؟ تو عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: یہ تمہارے اور تمہارے ساتھیوں کے لیے نہیں ہے ۔
