It was narrated that Jarir bin ‘Abdullah Al-Bajali said: “We used to think that gathering with the family of the deceased and preparing food was a form of wailing.”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا شُجَاعُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ أَبُو الْفَضْلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيل بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَجَلِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كُنَّا نَرَى الِاجْتِمَاعَ إِلَى أَهْلِ الْمَيِّتِ وَصَنْعَةَ الطَّعَامِ مِنَ النِّيَاحَةِ .

جریر بن عبداللہ بجلی رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   ہم میت کے گھر والوں کے پاس جمع ہونے اور ان کے لیے ان کے گھر کھانا تیار کرنے کو نوحہ سمجھتے تھے۔
