It was narrated that ‘Ikrash bin Dhu’aib said: “The Prophet (ﷺ) was brought a bowl filled with Tharid and fatty meat, and we started to eat from it. My hand was wandering all over, so he said: ‘O ‘Ikrash, eat from one spot, for it is all the same food.’ Then we were brought a plate on which were different kinds of fresh dates, and he hand of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went all around the plate. He said: ‘O ‘Ikrash, eat from wherever you want, for they are not all the same.’”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي السَّوِيَّةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عِكْرَاشٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ عِكْرَاشِ بْنِ ذُؤَيْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِجَفْنَةٍ كَثِيرَةِ الثَّرِيدِ وَالْوَدَكِ،‏‏‏‏ فَأَقْبَلْنَا نَأْكُلُ مِنْهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَخَبَطْتُ يَدِي فِي نَوَاحِيهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا عِكْرَاشُ كُلْ مِنْ مَوْضِعٍ وَاحِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّهُ طَعَامٌ وَاحِدٌ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ أُتِينَا بِطَبَقٍ فِيهِ أَلْوَانٌ مِنَ الرُّطَبِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَجَالَتْ يَدُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الطَّبَقِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا عِكْرَاشُ كُلْ مِنْ حَيْثُ شِئْتَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّهُ غَيْرُ لَوْنٍ وَاحِدٍ .

عکراش بن ذویب رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں ایک لگن لایا گیا جس میں بہت سا ثرید اور روغن تھا، ہم سب اس میں سے کھانے لگے، میں اپنا ہاتھ پیالے میں ہر طرف پھرا رہا تھا تو نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: عکراش! ایک جگہ سے کھاؤ، اس لیے کہ یہ پورا ایک ہی کھانا ہے ، پھر ایک طبق لایا گیا جس میں مختلف اقسام کی تازہ کھجوریں تھیں تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا ہاتھ طبق میں چاروں طرف گھومنے لگا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: عکراش! جہاں سے جی چاہے کھاؤ، اس لیے کہ اس میں کئی طرح کی کھجوریں ہیں ۔
