حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا صَدَقَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي عُتْبَةُ بْنُ أَبِي حَكِيمٍ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي عَنْ عَمِّهِ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَارِيَةَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ الشَّعْبَانِيِّ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَتَيْتُ أَبَا ثَعْلَبَةَ الْخُشَنِيَّ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ كَيْفَ تَصْنَعُ فِي هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَيَّةُ آيَةٍ،‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْفُسَكُمْ لا يَضُرُّكُمْ مَنْ ضَلَّ إِذَا اهْتَدَيْتُمْ سورة المائدة آية 105 قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَأَلْتَ عَنْهَا خَبِيرًا،‏‏‏‏ سَأَلْتُ عَنْهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بَلِ ائْتَمِرُوا بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَتَنَاهَوْا عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ،‏‏‏‏ حَتَّى إِذَا رَأَيْتَ شُحًّا مُطَاعًا وَهَوًى مُتَّبَعًا،‏‏‏‏ وَدُنْيَا مُؤْثَرَةً،‏‏‏‏ وَإِعْجَابَ كُلِّ ذِي رَأْيٍ بِرَأْيِهِ،‏‏‏‏ وَرَأَيْتَ أَمْرًا لَا يَدَانِ لَكَ بِهِ،‏‏‏‏ فَعَلَيْكَ خُوَيْصَةَ نَفْسِكَ،‏‏‏‏ وَدَعْ أَمْرَ الْعَوَامِّ،‏‏‏‏ فَإِنَّ مِنْ وَرَائِكُمْ أَيَّامَ الصَّبْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏الصَّبْرُ فِيهِنَّ مِثْلِ قَبْضٍ عَلَى الْجَمْرِ،‏‏‏‏ لِلْعَامِلِ فِيهِنَّ مِثْلُ أَجْرِ خَمْسِينَ رَجُلًا يَعْمَلُونَ بِمِثْلِ عَمَلِهِ .

Urdu Translation

ابوامیہ شعبانی کہتے ہیں کہ   میں ابوثعلبہ خشنی رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس آیا، اور میں نے ان سے پوچھا کہ اس آیت کریمہ کے بارے میں آپ کا کیا خیال ہے؟ انہوں نے پوچھا: کون سی آیت؟ میں نے عرض کیا: «يا أيها الذين آمنوا عليكم أنفسكم لا يضركم من ضل إذا اهتديتم» اے ایمان والو! اپنے آپ کی فکر کرو، جب تم ہدایت یاب ہو گے تو دوسروں کی گمراہی تمہیں ضرر نہیں پہنچائے گی ( سورة المائدة: 105 ) انہوں نے کہا: تم نے ایک جان کار شخص سے اس کے متعلق سوال کیا ہے، میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے اس کے متعلق پوچھا: تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: بلکہ تم اچھی باتوں کا حکم دو، اور بری باتوں سے روکو یہاں تک کہ جب تم دیکھو کہ بخیل کی اطاعت کی جاتی ہے، خواہشات کے پیچھے چلا جاتا ہے، اور دنیا کو ترجیح دی جاتی ہے، ہر صاحب رائے اپنی رائے اور عقل پر نازاں ہے اور تمہیں ایسے کام ہوتے نظر آئیں جنہیں روکنے کی تم میں طاقت نہ ہو تو ایسے وقت میں تم خاص اپنے آپ سے کام رکھو۔ تمہارے پیچھے ایسے دن بھی آئیں گے کہ ان میں صبر کرنا مشکل ہو جائے گا، اور اس وقت دین پر صبر کرنا اتنا مشکل ہو جائے گا جتنا کہ انگارے کو ہاتھ میں پکڑنا، اس زمانہ میں عمل کرنے والے کو اتنا ثواب ملے گا، جتنا اس جیسا عمل کرنے والے پچاس لوگوں کو ملے گا ۔

English Translation

It was narrated that Abu Umayyah Sha’bani said: “I came to Abu Tha’labah Al-Khushani and said: ‘How do you understand this Verse?’ He said: ‘Which verse?’ I said: “O you who believe! Take care of your own selves. If you follow the (right) guidance, no hurt can come to you from those who are in error.”?[5:105] He said: ‘You have asked one who knows about it. I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about it and he said: “Enjoin good upon one another and forbid one another to do evil, but if you see overwhelming stinginess, desires being followed, this world being preferred (to the Hereafter), every person with an opinion feeling proud of it, and you realize that you have no power to deal with it, then you have to mind your own business and leave the common folk to their own devices. After you will come days of patience, during which patience will be like grasping a burning ember, and one who does good deeds will have a reward like that of fifty men doing the same deed.”
