It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “We are more likely to express doubt than Ibrahim when he said: “My Lord! Show me how You give life to the dead.’ He (Allah) said: ‘Do you not believe?’ He (Ibrahim) said: ‘Yes (I believe), but to be stronger in Faith.’[2:260] And may Allah have mercy on Lut. He wished to have a powerful support. And if i were to stay in prison as long as Yusuf stayed, I would have accepted the offer.’”

حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى،‏‏‏‏ وَيُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى،‏‏‏‏ قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ،‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْابْنِ شِهَابٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ نَحْنُ أَحَقُّ بِالشَّكِّ مِنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِذْ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ رَبِّ أَرِنِي كَيْفَ تُحْيِي الْمَوْتَى قَالَ أَوَلَمْ تُؤْمِنْ قَالَ بَلَى وَلَكِنْ لِيَطْمَئِنَّ قَلْبِي سورة البقرة آية 260،‏‏‏‏ وَيَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ لُوطًا،‏‏‏‏ لَقَدْ كَانَ يَأْوِي إِلَى رُكْنٍ شَدِيدٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَلَوْ لَبِثْتُ فِي السِّجْنِ طُولَ مَا لَبِثَ يُوسُفُ لَأَجَبْتُ الدَّاعِيَ .

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ہم ابراہیم علیہ السلام سے زیادہ شک کرنے کے حقدار ہیں ۱؎ جب انہوں نے کہا: اے میرے رب تو مجھ کو دکھا کہ تو مردوں کو کیسے زندہ کرے گا؟ تو اللہ نے فرمایا: کیا تجھے یقین نہیں ہے؟ انہوں نے عرض کیا: کیوں نہیں ( لیکن یہ سوال اس لیے ہے ) کہ میرے دل کو اطمینان حاصل ہو جائے، اور اللہ تعالیٰ لوط علیہ السلام پر رحم کرے، وہ زور آور شخص کی پناہ ڈھونڈھتے تھے، اگر میں اتنے دنوں تک قید میں رہا ہوتا جتنے عرصہ یوسف علیہ السلام رہے، تو جس وقت بلانے والا آیا تھا میں اسی وقت اس کے ساتھ ہو لیتا ۲؎۔
