حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَنَسٍ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اشْتَكَى سَلْمَانُ،‏‏‏‏ فَعَادَهُ سَعْدٌ فَرَآهُ يَبْكِي،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ لَهُ سَعْدٌ:‏‏‏‏ مَا يُبْكِيكَ يَا أَخِي،‏‏‏‏ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ صَحِبْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ أَلَيْسَ أَلَيْسَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ سَلْمَانُ:‏‏‏‏ مَا أَبْكِي وَاحِدَةً مِنَ اثْنَتَيْنِ،‏‏‏‏ مَا أَبْكِي ضِنًّا لِلدُّنْيَا،‏‏‏‏ وَلَا كَرَاهِيَةً لِلْآخِرَةِ،‏‏‏‏ وَلَكِنْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ عَهْدًا فَمَا أُرَانِي إِلَّا قَدْ تَعَدَّيْتُ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَمَا عَهِدَ إِلَيْكَ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ يَكْفِي أَحَدَكُمْ مِثْلُ زَادِ الرَّاكِبِ،‏‏‏‏ وَلَا أُرَانِي إِلَّا قَدْ تَعَدَّيْتُ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَمَّا أَنْتَ يَا سَعْدُ،‏‏‏‏ فَاتَّقِ اللَّهَ عِنْدَ حُكْمِكَ إِذَا حَكَمْتَ،‏‏‏‏ وَعِنْدَ قَسْمِكَ إِذَا قَسَمْتَ،‏‏‏‏ وَعِنْدَ هَمِّكَ إِذَا هَمَمْتَ ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ ثَابِتٌ:‏‏‏‏ فَبَلَغَنِي أَنَّهُ مَا تَرَكَ إِلَّا بِضْعَةً وَعِشْرِينَ دِرْهَمًا،‏‏‏‏ مِنْ نَفَقَةٍ كَانَتْ عِنْدَهُ.

Urdu Translation

انس رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   سلمان فارسی رضی اللہ عنہ بیمار ہوئے تو سعد بن ابی وقاص رضی اللہ عنہ ان کی عیادت کے لیے آئے اور ان کو روتا ہوا پایا، سعد رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان سے کہا: میرے بھائی آپ کس لیے رو رہے ہیں؟ کیا آپ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی صحبت سے فیض نہیں اٹھایا؟ کیا ایسا نہیں ہے؟ کیا ایسا نہیں ہے؟ سلمان رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: میں ان دونوں میں سے کسی بھی وجہ سے نہیں رو رہا، نہ تو دنیا کی حرص کی وجہ سے اور نہ اس وجہ سے کہ آخرت کو ناپسند کرتا ہوں، بلکہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھے ایک نصیحت کی تھی، جہاں تک میرا خیال ہے میں نے اس سلسلے میں زیادتی کی ہے، سعد رضی اللہ عنہ نے پوچھا: وہ کیا نصیحت تھی؟ سلمان رضی اللہ عنہ نے جواب دیا کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا تھا: تم میں سے کسی کے لیے بھی دنیا میں اتنا ہی کافی ہے جتنا کہ مسافر کا توشہ، لیکن میں نے اس سلسلے میں زیادتی کی ہے، اے سعد! جب آپ فیصلہ کرنا تو اللہ تعالیٰ سے ڈرنا، جب کچھ تقسیم کرنا تو اللہ تعالیٰ سے ڈرنا، اور جب کسی کام کا قصد کرنا تو اللہ تعالیٰ سے ڈر کر کرنا۔ ثابت ( راوی حدیث ) کہتے ہیں کہ مجھے پتہ چلا کہ سلمان رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیس سے چند زائد درہم کے علاوہ کچھ نہیں چھوڑا، وہ بھی اپنے خرچ میں سے۔

English Translation

It was narrated from Thabit that Anas said: “Salman felt sick and Sa’d came to visit him, and when he saw him he wept. Sa’d said to him: ‘Why are you weeping, my brother? Are you not a Companion of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)? Are you not? Are you not?’ Salman said: ‘I am only weeping for one reason: I am not weeping because of longing for this world or for dislike of the Hereafter. But the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) gave me some advice and I think that I have transgressed.’ He said: ‘What was his advice to you?’ He said: ‘He advised me that something like the provision of a rider is sufficient for anyone of you, and I think that I have transgressed that. As for you, O Sa’d, fear Allah when you pass a verdict, and when you distribute (spoils of war), and when you decide to do anything.’”
