It was narrated from Shaddad bin Aws that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The thing that I fear most for my nation is associating others with Allah. I do not say that they will worship the sun or the moon or idols, but deeds done for the sake of anyone other than Allah, and hidden desires.”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ الْعَسْقَلَانِيُّ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا رَوَّادُ بْنُ الْجَرَّاحِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ ذَكْوَانَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْعُبَادَةَ بْنِ نُسَيٍّ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ أَخْوَفَ مَا أَتَخَوَّفُ عَلَى أُمَّتِي الْإِشْرَاكُ بِاللَّهِ،‏‏‏‏ أَمَا إِنِّي لَسْتُ أَقُولُ يَعْبُدُونَ شَمْسًا وَلَا قَمَرًا وَلَا وَثَنًا،‏‏‏‏ وَلَكِنْ أَعْمَالًا لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ وَشَهْوَةً خَفِيَّةً .

شداد بن اوس رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: بیشک سب سے زیادہ خطرناک چیز جس کا مجھ کو اپنی امت کے بارے میں ڈر ہے، وہ اللہ تعالیٰ کے ساتھ شرک ہے، میں یہ نہیں کہتا کہ وہ سورج، چاند یا بتوں کی پوجا کریں گے، بلکہ وہ غیر اللہ کے لیے عمل کریں گے، اور دوسری چیز مخفی شہوت ہے ۱؎۔
