Abu Hurairah narrated

that the Prophet (P.B.U.H) said: "The best fast after the month of Ramadan is fasting in the month of Allah, al-Muharram."

(Sahih Muslim 1163).

Importance of Muharram in Islam

One of the reasons for this is that Muharram is one of the four sacred months of the Islamic religion. During this month, Muslims are encouraged to respect it by avoiding doing something wrong and doing more good deeds and acts of worship. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) also emphasized the blessings of fasting, particularly on the Day of Ashura, during the month of Muharram. It's time to reflect, devote and seek Allah's mercy.

Events that took place in Muharram

Muharram has been a very important Islamic month for muslims because of the following historical events:

    • The Battle of Karbala: One of the most heartfelt moments of remembrance is when Imam Husayn ibn Ali, his family, and companions were martyred at Karbala.
    • Prophet Musa: Allah saved Prophet Musa and the Children of Israel from the tyranny of Pharaoh by splitting the Red Sea and Pharaoh drowned in the sea.
    • Prophet Nuh: After the great flood, Prophet Nuh's ark landed safely on Mount Judi.
    • Prophet Adam: When Prophet Adam accepted Allah's repentance and went to the earth.
