Ingredients
  1. 1 onion
  2. 1 clove garlic
  3. Oil for frying
  4. 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  5. 1 tablespoon plain flour
  6. 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  7. 2 teaspoons chilli powder
  8. 1 teaspoon sugar
  9. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  10. ½ Pint (U.S. 1 ¼ cups) beef or chicken stock
  11. 2 oz. creamed coconut
  12. 16-20 Dublin Bay prawns (according to size) 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  13. Salt to taste
Method
  • Chop the onion finely and crush the garlic. Heat some oil in a saucepan and add onion, garlic and cloves. Fry lightly, add the flour, turmeric, chilli, sugar and cinnamon. Cook gently for a few minutes. Gradually add the stock and coconut to the pan. Bring to the boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Add the prawns and lemon juice and season with salt. Cook for another 10 minutes. Serve with chappatis.
