Book Review: "WHO MOVED MY CHEESE" ?

(Rida Zainab, Sukkur)

This book is written by "Spencer Johnson".

It is the simple, amusing and enlightening story that reveals simple profound truth about change. It is a fun story of four characters who live in a maze and look for cheese to nourish them and make them happy and healthy. Cheese is a metaphor for what you want to have in life, for example a good job, relationship, money or possessions, good grades , health or spiritual peace of mind. The maze is where you look for what you want, perhaps the organisation you work in, or the family or community you live in, and the institution you study in. The problem is that the cheese keeps moving.

The four imaginary characters depicted in this story.. the mice : "Sniff" and "Scurry", and the littlepeople: "Hem" and "Haw" are intended to represent the simple and complex parts of ourselves , regardless of of our age, gender , race, creed or nationally.

Sometimes we may act like " Sniffy " who sniffs out change early, or "Scurry" who scurries into action, or "Hem" who denies and resists change as he fears it will lead to something worse, or "Haw" who learns to adapt in time when he sees changing leads to something better !

Whatever parts of us we choose to use, we all share something in common: a need to find our way in the maze and succeed in changing times.

So, the story revolves around how each character react when an unexpected “change” in circumstances deprives them of the cheese that they loved so dearly. Their reaction to the situation gives away valuable lessons that can help you discover for yourself how to deal with change that are happening with you and hard time in which you are suffering so that you can enjoy less stress and more success in your life.

I recommend this book to everyone as it is motivational and it talks straight to the point

The book tells us in order to achieve something one must keep going rather than just hoping we could achieve someday using a metaphor.

It also emphasises on moving on for a better change and also to be a good friend who consistently helps their friends to move on too.

"The Quicker you let go of old cheese, The sooner you find new cheese"
