Reflections may lie, but hearts don't

(Muskan Ali, Karachi)

Beauty isn’t about having a good face, but a good heart and a beautiful brain. Skin colour doesn’t define a person; a lot of people in the west like to get tanned voluntarily. This action highlights the fact that the term "beauty" is about inner beauty. Inner beauty starts in your heart, not in the mirror. Whereas, outer beauty simply refers to the looks of a person. It can easily be faked and changed through makeup, dressing, surgery, etc. Inner beauty is the beauty of your soul, your character, and your personality, which will shine one day or another. It’s better to shine and polish your inner soul with positive deeds than to change and remake your outer look.Demands for fair-complexioned brides and advertisements for fairness creams make it crystal clear that having fair skin in our society is a must. And people, inspired by those TV commercials, spend their money on fairness creams and expensive therapies that only provide temporary beauty while causing permanent skin damage. This way of thinking sabotages the confidence of people with dark complexions. Because of this, your outer beauty will shine, but it won’t match the beauty of your soul. Our society needs to understand that complexion is a natural process. Even the most beautiful and fair person is viewed as ugly once his or her bitter nature is revealed. We must not judge a book by its cover. Only when we are free of this racist mindset will we be able to see that what matters most is one fair and light in their heart.Inner beauty can be classified into two main categories: physical and mental. Physical inner beauty involves the improvement of physical health. Mental inner beauty involves the goodness and purity of thoughts. We see others as we see ourselves. Therefore, to improve the perception of our world, we need to first take control of our thoughts. Inner beauty gives you the confidence to face the world and its problems, which is something far greater than the standards that have been set by society. A person's appearance and beauty methods can always be judged or questioned. Someone will always be critical of your decision or appearance. However, inner beauty is something that will always receive praise from people. An individual will always have to keep a balance between their opinions and those of others. Young girls starve themselves to fit into unhealthy beauty standards because they envy others and are unhappy with themselves, but do not understand that "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder". The best you are is when you just smile and brighten up someone’s day. People should come to you to share their messed-up thoughts, believing they will find comfort like no other near you. They don’t look at your features and define you; they look inside you. You can be beautiful with the beauty and complexion you have. This was rewarded by the great Creator who made and controls this universe, so He knows what will suit you. He made your soul pure too, but it's on us how we will try to maintain that positivity and pureness of the soul.
