Overview of the floods
Scope and scale

A third of country was under water as of 1 september over the past week, light to moderate rains have been reported in various areas of tharparkar distric in Sindh and balkan district in Baluchistan. High flood level persist in southern Sindh. But have to recode in other provinces such as Punjab and blochistan.

Weather forecast

Further moderate to heavy rains are forecast over the central raising the risk of further flooding of the eastern rivers tight to moderate rains are also expected in Sindh and blochistan provinces next week.
According to the Pakistan meteorological department heavy rains could affected the eastern rivers (Sutlej, Ravi and Chenab) from 17 september, while these rivers and their tributries could experience flooding 18 onward.

People in relief camps: at least 541,000 displaced people living in camps , a 19% decrease in the last week. (13\09\22) .

High economic losses: poverty and unemployment are estimated to have gone up significantly rising from 21.9% to over 36% as well as the inflation projected to go up range of 24% to 27% . the unemployment rate is expected to increase by 1 to 1.5% reaching to 6 to 7% over all in Pakistan.

Refugees: 800,00 refugees are living in the areas in affected by floods mainly in balochistan kpk and Sindh provinces.
Economic losses due to floods: the federal minister of finance estimated flood losses in the country at usd 12 billion.
Estimated the cost of recovery: the prime minister of Pakistan estimated that usd 100 billion will be needed to repair damaged infrastructures spread across the country.
Lower gdp projection: Pakistan expects to cut its gross domestic product (GDP) growth projects for the financial year 2022-2023 from 5 to 3% due to losses from the floods according to the plaining minister ( down news ).
Priority needs: according to MSF, access to clean water and shelter are the most pressing needs.
Postponement: the election commission of Pakistan dedicated to indefinitely postpone by the elections in at least 10 national assembly constituencies and three provincial seats.

Education
Main issues and needs
Damaged infrastructure: at least 22000 school has been damaged mainly in Sindh province (UNICEF) with at least 2800 school reportedly collapsed.
Education facilities used as a shelter: more than 5500 school in flood hit areas are also being used as a shelters for displaced population , further limiting access to learning opportunities and will require cleaning and renovation.
Interruption of education: more than the 3.5 million children Pakistan have seen education disrupted due to flooding the destruction of schools and the inability to travel in same regions (UNICEF).
Aggravating factors: in pakistan about 23 million children between the ages of 5 and 16 were out of school before the floods. Aside from the shortage of teachers. Distance and safety to school are the biggest barriers to getting and education in rural areas with 29% of her parents saying schools are too far.
Flood security and livelihoods.

Damaged crops: at least 415 million areas have been affected and at least 833,000 livestock lost (ndma).
Lack of resources to buy food: some 73% of household are estimated to have inadequate resources to buy food.
Increase of prices: according to the chairman of Karachi wholesalers grocers association flood increased demand by 25% for various essential food items with many prices beyond the reach of many affected people.
Health
Main issues and needs.
Damaged infrastructure: at least 1500, health facilities have been affected of which 450, fully damaged and 1039 partially damaged according to ( world health organization) 15th September.
Rising number of injured people: 12,722 injured people have been reported as of 8 September a number that more than a weak.
High number of disease cases: 660.120 people have reported various illness most of which are diarrhea (14,000 daily cases) skin infection ( 15.000 cases) and acute respiratory diseases (13.000 daily cases) at government run medical camps in flood effect areas since July eye infection typhoid hepatitis . a malaria dengue fever and snake bites are also growing being reported ( who 5\09\22).
Polio cases: on 12 september Pakistan registered its 8th cases of polio this year.
Logistic and access
Main issues and needs
Damaged roads: more than 13000 km of roads have been damaged by these rains and at least 390 bridges have been affected across the county. A 100% increase in only 24th due to the new data provided by the government of Sindh and consolidated.
Receding floods enabling access: demising flood waters in northern Pakistan and repairs to transportation infrastructure in balochistan have been augmenting of recent week.
Disrupted telecommunication networks: the number of non- functional sites had been to 190 most which in Sindh.
Lift on restrictions for foreign goods: the Pakistan government lifted some of the restrictions on foreign goods for 90 day in order to provide a relief after the floods of recent weeks.
