Deliberate Misogynism, halt on women's emancipation.

(Mohsin Yaseen, Lahore.)

Dear Editor, I would like to highlight pressing issue of misogynist culture through your newspaper. It has been witnessed through the pages of history, where women are forged to produce the brood through forced marriages or may consensus marriage. This was serfdom and it is still being in practice though in modern world, where a women should be part of civic society management and other imperative professional works. Alone in Pakistan, the women are also a brood producing machine whose aim to exacerbate one's clan. This is a modern and pernicious fragile form of slavery. Highlighting currently controversial judgement by our apex court is a clear sign of deliberate misogynistic attitude, where rape accused was changed into fornication. It is not the alone case where victim blaming is being played, most of the time we have witnessed the scenarios where womens credibility put into question. Let alone, this judgement just took up the workplace harassment issues which are corrupting our moral and ethical standards of beloved religion Islam. A country where socio-culture environment especially towards the feminine gender is too harsh , will substantial growth possible to compete with modern standard of technology and living? the answer is simply no. With the balatant violation of rule of law in almost every area of Pakistan, the accountability and conviction rate is too low to ease the turbulent repression. Pakistan ranks 145th out of 172 in Gender Inequality Index (GII) , which is lowerer than civilized nations of the world, where the Human Development Index ( HDI) indicates far number almost 168 out of 193 countries according to the recent data shared by United Nations. To ease the parlous effect of misogynism, government must act with robust policy tools incalcating: proactive legislative provision, safeguarding womens right, ensure proper workplace safety, social and economic security to women while maintaining their personal privacy, strive to diminish the inflating culture of misogyny. Thought proceeds action, the thought we have been witnessing but action requires which must be done. Napoleon Bonaparte had once said, " If you give me an educated women, I will give you a civilized nation". So, time to contemplate on this is now, to avoid the far reaching ramifications later.
