Last ODI between Newzealand and Australia was washout. That match was a series decider and Newzealand had upper hand when rain cames out. Newzealand required 33 runs in 36 balls, Gaptill and Diamanti was on the crease with the scores of 64 and 24 respectively and they had 4 wickets in the bag.

This series was 2nd constituent of Newzealand versus Australia series in Australia. The two Test match series was played in November 2008 which won by Australia by 2-0.

This ODI series was important for Australia to prove their dominance in International cricket scene, because they defeated badly by South Africa in Test and ODIs(Dec 2008 to Jan 2009).1st ODI was a last ball thriller which won by Newzealand by two wickets. Big controversy arose after this match, batsman of Newzealand NT Broom bowled out by M Clarke but actually he was not out replay shows that ball was not hit the wicket and bails was off by wicket keeper’s gloves. 2nd ODI also won by NZ by 6 wickets. After this defeat Australia board recall Ricky Ponting as skipper for 3rd match who suppose to be on rest for rest of the series after 1st match. This tactic work for Australia in next two matches and they win 3rd and 4th match by 32 runs and 6 wickets respectively. M Elliot (NZ), Haddin (Aus) and M Hussey (Aus) was the batter of this series and O'Brien remain highest wicket taker of the series by 10 wickets. M Hussey was declared Man Of the series. He hit 3 consecutive 50s and remain 2nd highest run getter after Haddin. CJ Ferguson blinks in this series as the future star of Australia.

Australia next task is to face South Africa in their home ground. Australia will battle for remain No. 1 in test and South Africa will try to grab that place. Let see who will take that prize between two giants.
