NO SMOKING. SMOKING KILLS. We
read this tag line almost everywhere whether it be offices, airplanes,
restaurants, etc. what we don't do is that we skip pondering over this
statement. What we don't realise is that by smoking, we don't just deteriorate
our own health but also of the passive smokers- that is the people who inhale
the cigarette smoke.
Smoking, for many of us becomes a substitute for our early habit of following
the whims of the moment; it becomes a legitimate excuse for interrupting work
and snatching a moment of pleasure. "You sometimes get tired of working
intensely," said an accountant whom we interviewed, "and if you sit back for the
length of a cigarette, you feel much fresher afterwards. It's a peculiar thing,
but I wouldn't think of just sitting back without a cigarette. I guess a
cigarette somehow gives me a good excuse." Again One smoker explained: "I nearly
always smoke a cigarette before going to bed. That finishes the day. I usually
turn the light out after I have smoked the last cigarette, and then turn over to
sleep." Frequently, our respondents remarked that smoking cigaretees is like
being with a friend. Said one, "When I lean back and light my cigarette and see
the glow in the dark, I am not alone any more...." In one sense, a cigarette
seems to be something alive.
Some just smoke to relax their nerves either to forget their painful memories or
just to gain pleasure.
Smoking is primarily a health threat for men. Nearly half of all men smoked in
the 1970s and 1980s, whereas only 5 percent of women smoked. Twenty-five percent
of all adults were estimated to be smokers in 1985, with a marked increase among
women (who still generally smoke only at home). The national airline, Pakistan
International Airlines (PIA), instituted a no-smoking policy on all its domestic
flights in the late 1980s. In an unusual departure from global trends, PIA
reversed this policy in mid1992 , claiming public pressure--despite no evident
public outcry in newspapers or other media.
(NaturalNews) A massive research project conducted by Harvard Medical School and
Massachusetts General Hospital reveals that parents who seek help with the right
cessation program are much more likely to stop smoking than those attempting to
quit on their own. Over 7,000 parents were studied in 18 different studies, and
the parents were offered self help materials, counseling, and/or medications by
their.
Nowadays, with smoking being so in common and while no one takes this issue
seriously has now lead to CHILD SMOKING. Where the percentage of people smoking
Under 18 is escalating day by day. A person shall not sell or hand over tobacco
products to a person who is or apparently is under the age of 18 years, which
restriction is self-imposed by distributors and retailers. Surprisingly, there
is no law on smoking age limit by the government. A 10-year-old walk right into
a store and simply buys tobacco, no questions asked by the shopkeeper. Who is
responsible? May be the government .Why is cigarette available to students under
18? Can’t there be any law for it? There should be strict law by the government
on smoking age limit. Anyone who breaks the law should be jailed so that people
take seriously it.
As also said by a famous personality; "Smoking is just like farting with the
poisonous elements." - Skai Chan, founder of SmokeForWhat.com. In my opinion, if
the smokers find it that hard to quit smoking then can't they even quit this bad
habit for their loved ones? Acknowledging the face that it is extremely bad for
health and that it leads to various cardiac and vascular diseases. Why still put
your pleasure before your health? Why out it before your loved ones? "If people
don't love themselves enough to cut down on their smoking, they may love someone
else enough to do it."
It might be a very tough experience that is to quit smoking but trust me, after
ample of interviews, all the smokers who've left smoking are now living a very
comfortable life. They did face a lot of drawbacks, as one of them said: "Even
with the best preplanning quitting is an extremely unsettling experience. It may
feel as if somebody dropped a bomb on your life." All is worth it!
People who think is impossible might take this as an example. "One of the great
regrets of my life is that I smoked. If I could say anything to anybody starting
out in life it would be, 'Whatever you do, don't smoke'. I have had to recover
from that and been lucky that I have been able to stop." - Bill Nighy, star in
the UK on his 30-year smoking habit 'Boat That Rocked' star (Daily Telegraph
newspaper)
Many lives can be saved by strengthening tobacco control measures -- cigarette
taxes, counter-advertising, smoking bans, linguistically and culturally
appropriate smoking prevention measures, and quit-smoking programs. And this is
the maximum that the government can do, the rest is in your hands. Just think
for a while, what your family would go through if they would have to take you to
hospitals and go through a trauma just because you couldn't resist this urge to
smoke? Think hard and think thorough if smoking is worth all that. Instead, keep
yourself busy in other tasks and always be an optimist. A famous saying 'You
only get to love one'. Don't make your life and health miserable by smoking.
Life is beautiful, live it and love it. Don't waste it.
