Entrepreneurship is in fact is part of Islamic culture and Prophet Muhammad
(peace be upon him, PBUH) and his companions are examples of this. There are lot
of Muslims that are successful entrepreneurs in the world and Islam always
invite all Muslims to be innovative, entrepreneur and active but unfortunately,
however through time Muslims have lost their confidence.
Islam currently the world’s second largest religion is described in the Quran as
the submission to the will of Allah. In fact Islam encourages prosperity through
the appropriate use of the resources given by Allah. Such resources are seen as
important to provide for basic survival and physical needs as well as
accumulation of wealth.
As success is basic thing that motivates entrepreneurs, however in Quran success
is associated with words falah and aflaha. Falah for Muslims is always be
condition with following factors:
• Halal - livelihoods that are in accordance to what is being outlined by Allah.
• Qanaah – be pleased and thankful with one’s earning.
• Tufiq – asking for the blessing of Allah in proportion to one’s expectations.
• Sa’adah – spiritual happiness.
• Jannah – worldly success should act as the bridge to the ultimate success in
the life thereafter.
The concept of entrepreneurship in Islam is also based on co-operation,
generosity.
So we can say that entrepreneurship is integral part of Islam and
motivation-success in Islam is not merely measured by the end result but also
the way and means of achieving them. Islamic entrepreneurship should operate
within the domain of Islamic Economic System and act as the vehicle toward
global acceptance of Islamic Economic System.
Entrepreneurial ethics based on exemplary conducts of Prophet Muhammad (peace be
upon him, PBUH).
