The General Education in
Pakistan can be divided in to 3 levels as Primary or Elementary Education from
grade 1 to 5 (age group 5+ to 10+), Secondary Education from grade 6 to 10 (age
group 10+ to 15+), College and University Education from grade 11 onward (age
group 16+ and onward). The Technical Education stream also flows in paralle to
general education and includes the Polytechnic Institutes and Government
Colleges of Technologies. Pakistan has also strong base of Engineering and
Medical Education having world renowned Engineering and Medical colleges and
universities.
Education is taken care of both by the public and private sector. The private
sector instituions flourish due to their high qaulity education and better
physical facilities.
Education plays important role in building one’s character and makes people
responsible citizens. Education is considered most powerful instrument, to
eradicate poverty and also to make batter socio economic progress of society. It
opens the doors of awareness and freedom to the people. People can get easily
access to knowledge and can improve their lives and image to the outer world.
Education brings positive attitudes within individuals and societies.
Pakistan is a country with four provinces, Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan and Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa. Among these four provinces, Punjab is considered to be having more
literacy rate but around 35 million people are illiterate at present time in
Punjab. Educational standards and measurements are very much low in most of the
parts of Pakistan.
Pakistan is facing educational crises as the half of the adults and two thirds
of women re illiterate. Pakistan has one of the lowest literacy rates in the
world.
Pakistani government remained failed to consider the value of education in the
country, which is no doubt a big need of time. Education is given much more
importance all over the world in spite of our country. Here are so many reasons
of educational crises in Pakistan; one of the main reasons is poverty, inflation
and unhealthy atmosphere. In Pakistan, Education is expensive and everybody can
not afford it.
Government schools and colleges are not much in number and private institutions
are providing their educational services at high cost. Funds are not distributed
properly to the places where they need to be spending on. In private sectors,
education is much expensive and the poor’s can not afford those expenses.
Most of the educational crises in Pakistan are known because of language
discrimination, in our private sectors schools, subjects are teached in English.
Urdu is our basic language, known as mother tongue, in this sense, Urdu becomes
neglected and students get confused in English and Urdu.
A very few of students get access to the secondary level education; most of them
remained only up to the primary level. Most of the children can not go to
fulfill their secondary education because of poverty and Parents force their
children to work. Researches shows that child labor rate in Pakistan are high
amongst other Asian countries. Most of the females in Pakistan are illiterate as
compared to the males.
Government of Pakistan is not focusing on education crises in Pakistan, which is
a big demand of time. A number of government schools remain closed all over the
year because of negligence, teachers are not enough to teach there and buildings
are also in much poor conditions.
Pakistan is lacking behind in education because of several reasons, one of them
is terrorism. Pakistan is not considered as a safe country as students do not
feel safe when in their schools, colleges. This kind of conditions are not
considered beneficial for the country and are spoiling states of students as
they are afraid of going to their schools and colleges.
Government and other public service companies and NGO’s must consider this
critical issue seriously because education helps people making better societies
and better societies helps country in improvement and development.
