Load shedding issues still exist

(Hassan Raheem, Lahore)

Load shedding issues still exist in the same pace after 1 year take up of this new goverment

Now when I went on the roof of my house, I saw about 4-5 % houses having solar panel on the roof its means they are contributing in electricity generation.

Whenever I have gone to hall road market & similar markets even on small town of population of 3,000 people I have seen people buying the solar system, further on every Sunday news paper there are ads of the companies selling solar systems. While searching on internet you will get thousand of related links for solar panel.

To brief I will take example of 150 watts panel. A panel of 150 watts generates about 40 units in a month in summer season and approximately a low middle class family monthly requirement is about 300 units and right now a person having monthly income of Rs. 50,000 and on a rented house can’t afford the bill of Rs. 4374 (if he consumed the 300 units) my mean to say that now everyone is trying to reduce the electricity consumption to keep it under 200 units (bill for 200 units is about Rs. 1600) to avail the subsidy on the bill.

The method I adopted to calculate electricity produced by the solar system is by calculating the income of person involved in the business of solar system. It may surprise you, but I don’t have any other way to calculate this.

Per my idea about 200 companies and 2000 shopkeepers are selling only the solar systems i.e. their sole business is of solar system in Pakistan, while about 5000 shops those are also selling solar panels with other materials in Pakistan.

An average price of a 150 watts solar panel is almost Rs. 8500 and as per my calculation companies & shopkeepers are selling these at gross profit margin of 10% i.e. their gross profit from a solar panel is about Rs. 800.

For a company to survive should generate a gross profit around Rs. 300,000 to meet their expenses around Rs. 200,000 and net profit of Rs. 100,000 for owner. Below grid is briefing that total panels sold by the companies.

For a shopkeeper to survive should generate a gross profit around Rs. 100,000 to meet their expenses around Rs. 50,000 and net profit of Rs. 50,000 for owner. Below grid is briefing that total panels sold by the shopkeeper.

Shopkeeper those are dealing in solar panel with other materials are selling about 1 panels in one days i.e. 5,000 panels are sold by these 5,000 shops in a day and in this case we are not calculating their survival income as other materials in shops are also an income sources for these shopkeepers.

business type number of business units Gross profit by a business unit. profit on 1 panel number of panel sold by a business units in a month total panel sold in a month by companies & shopkeepers number of watts sold in month.
company 200 300,000.00 800.00 375.00 75,000.00 11,250,000.00
shop 2,000 100,000.00 800.00 125.00 250,000.00 37,500,000.00
shops having other business as well. 5,000 1.00 5,000.00 750,000.00
total number of watts sold in a month 49,500,000.00
total number of mega watts sold in a month 49.50
number of mega watts produced by solar system sold in 1 month based on 10 hours working (from 7 AM to 5 PM) 20.63
*1 mega watts = 1000,000 watts.

If people are adding about 20.63 mega watts every month in the electricity production and in last 1 year the addition made by the people is about 250 mega watts. This addition should give a relief in load shedding, but the situation is different instead of reduction in load shedding after 1 year of take up of current government the situation is still same.

May 5, 2014 was the cold day since last two weeks and below news (news paper copy past) is really a alarm for us that still we are hoping for the best. I live in Johar Town Lahore and on this day in addition to a hourly load shedding there was a load shedding of 3 hours from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. My relative from Mareedwala (a small town of district Faisalabad) told me that on this day light was came for 10-15 minutes after 2-3 hours.

My objective is not to criticize the current government, but to give a wakeup call to the people of Pakistan that this country is our and we have to save it as the number of family member & relative of current government are less than the required quantity of person to control this country. I am not sure that Khawaja Asif is federal minister for power & electricity as all the deals for new project are announced by Shahbaz Sharif and a relative of prime minster Abid Shaar Ali is talking about the electricity theft in Pakistan and looking after the other issue of this ministry.
