Seven Seconds Of Agony

(Nida Khan, Karachi)

Thinking for sometime to put my thoughts in writing on one of the major issues of the society, but was delayed due to laziness or due to shortage of time to be appropriate. Putting behind all the delays, today I have picked up my pen with great grief and sadness to write on a topic which when seen or heard breaks the heart into pieces and lowers the eyes into tears of shame thinking that the issue can somehow be changed.

We have not seen Pakistan being established, but surely had heard it from our ancestors about the tough time they faced had and with what difficulty it came into existence. How many valuable and precious lives had been lost in the process and how everyone had left their personal belongings and valuable assets behind and migrated to Pakistan .

It is really important to keep in mind that any nation, city or even villages for that matter, do not come into existence without striving for it and as an extension, it is even harder to make yourself accepted by other nations.

It would be more appropriate to say that you have to feed your blood to the earth; “Striving throughout your lifetime” and that is exactly what the proud people of Pakistan had done. Paying a souvenir of their blood, loved ones and property, this nation came into being.

Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the father and founder of Pakistan had done an immense favor for the Muslims of Pakistan as being the only man who with a new vision and mission strived and gave up his life striving for other nations to recognize and accept Pakistan as a separate state. The great man strived for a separate nation for the Muslims, a nation for the Muslims that can be recognized, and he, along with his associates succeeded in his vision.

Hiding from his illness, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah moved on in the most passionate way creating an instinct and love for the new nation as he was aware that if the British and the Hindus get the slightest glimpse of the vision, they will try their level best to create hurdles in the formation of Pakistan.

Finally, due to all the hard work, strivings and the loss of precious lives, Pakistan came into existence on 14th August 1947.

Fighting from illness, the father and the founder of Pakistan passed away in the following year of independence on 11th September 1948 leaving behind the perishable world. The tomb of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah was created outside the boundary of the city of Karachi, but due to the rapid increase in population, it lies in the center of Karachi today.

Whenever I pass from near the tomb, I raise my hand and salute with respect to this Mujahid as if it would not have been for this freedom fighter, we would have still been recognized as the second minority in Hindustan (India) and every second would have been realizing this bitter truth of living a life of living dead. There are millions of people like me who live in Karachi and pass daily through the road of Sharah-e-Quaideen, but I would particularly like to highlight those people who pass from there during the time span of 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

The total duration of passing this entire way takes approximately 7 seconds, and now these daily 7 seconds have turned out giving me intense shame and pain and may be there are many other people who feel the same way as I do, but they are silent - but now as a responsible citizen it is time to break the ice or else------.

On this passage, students of various schools and colleges Date along the boundaries of the tomb. It seems that it has turned out to be a uniform that the females standing are mostly found in black gowns (Abayah) with their faces half covered and males are casually dressed. Where ever the eye reaches on a vast scale, these couples are found dating and goofing around and this has turned out to be a source of amusement for the guardians of the tomb on duty. There is no sign of police or any force for that matter neither for the protective measure nor to acknowledge the couples to stop such activities in public places. Maybe, after reading this article, the readers may very well understand that what type of place does the view illustrate, and by thinking this, my heart sheds tears of blood. It takes only 7 seconds for the view to get vanished from the eyes but these 7 seconds break me up from the inside. There are some thoughts in ones mind which are still awaited to be solved, which breaks a true Pakistani up from inside:

• Did Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah make a separate nation for the Muslims (Pakistan) for this purpose that the future of Pakistan (children) Date around instead of studying and preserving their future, and that too, in and around the boundaries of his tomb?

• Did millions of freedom fighters (shaheeds) give up their valuable lives for this purpose only?

• Did the women, girls and children give up their lives so that 65 years later, their successors would be doing these types of deeds?

As an extension to the context, a very unexpected and shameful act passed from the sight and came to the public’s knowledge which took place at the exact same spot as mentioned above and was considerably taken to a higher level.

The people that were involved in this dreadful act were none other than the guardians of the tomb; after this, what can be thought, said and expected.

A woman was hostage to an internal room at gunpoint and she was brutally engaged in a terrifying and dreadful act (gang rape), after which she was thrown out of the tomb’s boundaries restlessly.

Is there no law left in the country? Will anyone do anything what he feels like without restriction?

I, with most gratitude would like to request and demand President of Pakistan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Chief Minister of Sindh, Governor of Sindh and City Nazim to take an immediate notice and a strict action towards these shameful acts. I would also like to request all the parents to open their eyes and to keep an eagle’s eye on their children as they leave home for schools and colleges to seek knowledge, but end up in a public places doing illegal and unethical acts.

Today, the whole nation is struggling and everyone has an eye on the future of Pakistan (children), and may be a child would emerge who would do something for the betterment of the nation and make the existence of Pakistan shine. But, as per current situation, it seems difficult as our successors are furiously adapting to the culture of Indian and Western trends.

WHO BY THIS TIME HAD FORGOTTEN THAT WE ARE MUSLIMS…………
