The Basic Objective of Education
(Syed Manazirul Haq, Karachi)
Only the education is the
source of development, growth, ascent and skill of a certain nation. The
education is also the source of awakening of human thinking and conscious. It
leads the human beings to the righteous path having drawn him from the deviation
ways of darkness. But it is regrettable fact that majority of us despite having
higher degrees are unfamiliar with the basic meaning and purpose of education.
We have only taken it learning and teaching, preparation of examination and the
source of getting better employment. Although the education is proved to be
helper and supporter on all these matters however it is not its basic purpose
yet the main objective of education is to provide mental, physical and moral
training to a human being. These three factors have the same relation with each
other which mental body and soul have relation with each other. The person is
the composition of these three collective qualities. A renowned educationist has
said that “the education is not meant for only to pass on information but for
the perfect life it means growth of mental, body and moral training of nature”.
A saying of another expert of education is that “The purpose of education is not
to provide a treasure of information but its aim is growth of abilities of
mankind.”
Thus the great scholars, thinkers and educationists have declared the mental,
physical and moral training as the fundamental objective of education. Although
the field of education is very fast and for development in the modern age the
acquirement of the knowledge of science and art is unavoidable yet we may get
education either on any subject we should never forget the basic purpose of
education viz training of mental, physical and moral notwithstanding always
should grasp them in mind so that our youths when they go out from the
educational institutions holding high degrees in science and technology sectors
their moral and character are also unique and no one could get opportunity that
the education discards the youths but all admit it that the education dresses
the human beings.
In the present age the moral deficiency which is to be seen for example
perverseness of some educated youths and blind following of the west causing
destruction of their moral, cultural and religious values so in their spoiling
the education has no accountability but it is fault of our education system. In
our country countless colleges, schools, universities and other fine art
institution for education are existed and among them several are renowned for
their best education standard but it is bitter fact that educational
institutions are growing education but mostly among them are not paying proper
attention on training – whereas it is vital because along with learning and
teaching the building of characters of students is obligation of the educational
institution also an integral part of true education.
