Street Children
(Syed Manazir-ul-Haq, Karachi)
The children who live and lead
their life on street and lane are known as street children. Generally they are
homeless and ready to do anything for money – whether it is moral or immoral.
The children who run away from their homes on account of cruel and injustice
attitudes of their parents and guardians are generally abducted and manipulated
in wrong ways. Some who are saved from abduction become street children.
Whatever the consequences the runaway children face - their parents remain in
dilemma all the life and deeply regret constantly over their cruel and unjust
attitudes with their children.
Most children who have good faces and figures happen to sex-workers and spoil
the society by way of their ill-doings. In the light of Pakistan Scenario Street
children have become a social evil not only for states but also for citizens as
they are manipulated by culprits for their negative and immoral desires as well
as they are brainwashed for terrorism activities causing casualties and loss of
properties and infrastructure in all over the country. Some street children in
the long run become criminals and form their own groups to carry out illegal
activities including abduction for ransom and if ransom is not provided they
kill the kidnapped child cause endless gloom and grief for parents.
The core causes of growing street children and homeless people are i) poverty
ii) illegal relations of men and women iii) ignorance and lack of education iv)
injustice and cruelty of parents and guardians v) materialistic and
money-oriented thinking and attitudes vi) lack of passion vi) lack of human
values vii) unbalanced fostering and above all viii) forgetting and away from
Islamic Teachings.
The problem of street children has become an economy and social issue and it can
be resolved by way of economic and social reforms. The governments and social
reformers are requested to pay heed to overcome this problem.
