Role of man promoting women empowerment
(kiran javed hussain, Karachi)
Gender-based violence and discrimination are a critical problem all around the world. We live in a society that is more of ‘naive-thinking’ dominating than male dominating.
The first thing that people needs to understand is that the lives of men and women are interdependent. So, progress towards making the women empowered will not only be beneficial to the women all around but to the men as well. The thinking of people is so naïve that they don’t want to change and if anyone who wants to change is seen with contempt.
The gap between men and women has increased so much that narrowing it down without suspicion is not possible. Today the fight is about equality and still there is some uncertainty and unconfidence in the people working towards it with the help of the other gender. Thinking the requirement of men to empower women raises many questions in the minds of the people like- why are men needed for the women empowerment in the first place, how are they going to make any changes, why would they be willing to help women grow, what solutions they can provide with and many such questions. The reason for this suspicion is the gap that has been created and thinking that given all the power and superiority in the world, will men accept the idea of empowering women and bringing them equal to their status. This needs to change.
To work and achieve the growth and equal status people especially women needs to see men as their allies and not competitors. Men become resistant to the idea of whole women empowerment when women start tagging them as evil in every aspect. This creates issues and the whole men vs. women saga takes place. It must stop in order to make any change possible in the society.
Men can and should play an important role in the women empowerment, as we live in a men superior or male dominating society where men have access to the power from making decisions from the personal level to the national level. This arouses the need for the involvement of men in the process. Also, we need all the possible resources available in order to achieve women empowerment or given the scenario gender equality, but maximum resources are controlled by men, thus, giving another reason for their involvement. We can say that including men in the process is crucial. We cannot deny the help we need and to get that help we need to be more sensible and influential and not make men the evil of the society since they are the one who can provide us with the immense exposure and help. On the other hand, having men on board in this fight will help in getting and influencing more men to work towards the growth of women. A man will get more convinced and understand the importance of it from another man than from a woman. To a level at which a man can make another man understand a woman cannot. Because all men want an equal and a better living place for their mothers, sisters, wives, daughters and would want them to grow and empower in any way possible.
Women empowerment is a most crucial and important issue because women are responsible for forming a human race and half of the resources that are required to empower the society and with such responsibility and no proper and equal status in the society it would be unfair and unjust to them. A woman transmits values and morals from generation to generation, impacting the development of the society, making society obliged to empower women and invest for their betterment. Since, in our own created universe, men are the center of it, their co-operation and involvement is a must. To make this possible, men needs to be encouraged, educated and exposed about the need to empower women from a very young age.
We don’t want to live in a society that has naïve thinking. We want to live in a developed and empowering society where both men and women accept each other as equals and live in harmony. This can happen with a right thought, right motive and courage to work towards it with an open arms and an open mind.
Empower the society by empowering women and involving men as equals.
