Jabir bin Abdullah narrated: We practiced Azl while the Qur'an was being revealed.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كُنَّا نَعْزِلُ وَالْقُرْآنُ يَنْزِلُ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ جَابِرٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْهُ مِنْ غَيْرِ وَجْهٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رَخَّصَ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَغَيْرِهِمْ فِي الْعَزْلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وقَالَ مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ:‏‏‏‏ تُسْتَأْمَرُ الْحُرَّةُ فِي الْعَزْلِ وَلَا تُسْتَأْمَرُ الْأَمَةُ.

جابر بن عبداللہ رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ   ہم عزل کرتے تھے اور قرآن اتر رہا تھا ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- جابر رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- یہ حدیث اور بھی کئی طرق سے ان سے مروی ہے، ۳- صحابہ کرام وغیرہم میں سے اہل علم کی ایک جماعت نے عزل کی اجازت دی ہے۔ مالک بن انس کا قول ہے کہ آزاد عورت سے عزل کی اجازت لی جائے گی اور لونڈی سے اجازت لینے کی ضرورت نہیں۔
