Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: When a person dies, his deeds are cut off except for three: Continuing charity, knowledge that others benefited from, and a righteous son who supplicates for him.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ،‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِيهِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ،‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا مَاتَ الْإِنْسَانُ انْقَطَعَ عَمَلُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ ثَلَاثٍ،‏‏‏‏ صَدَقَةٌ جَارِيَةٌ،‏‏‏‏ وَعِلْمٌ يُنْتَفَعُ بِهِ،‏‏‏‏ وَوَلَدٌ صَالِحٌ يَدْعُو لَهُ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب انسان مر جاتا ہے تو اس کے عمل کا سلسلہ بند ہو جاتا ہے سوائے تین چیزوں کے: ایک صدقہ جاریہ ۱؎ ہے، دوسرا ایسا علم ہے ۲؎ جس سے لوگ فائدہ اٹھائیں اور تیسرا نیک و صالح اولاد ہے ۳؎ جو اس کے لیے دعا کرے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے۔
