Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: Do not vilify the dead (and) by that harm the living.

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْحَفَرِيُّ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ، قَال:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ، يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تَسُبُّوا الْأَمْوَاتَ فَتُؤْذُوا الْأَحْيَاءَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وَقَدِ اخْتَلَفَ أَصْحَابُ سُفْيَانَ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَرَوَى بَعْضُهُمْ مِثْلَ رِوَايَةِ الْحَفَرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَوَى بَعْضُهُمْ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَال:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ رَجُلًا يُحَدِّثُ عِنْدَ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏نَحْوَهُ.

مغیرہ بن شعبہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”مردوں کو گالی دے کر زندوں کو تکلیف نہ پہنچاؤ“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: اس حدیث کی روایت کرنے میں سفیان کے شاگرد مختلف ہیں، بعض نے حفری کی حدیث کے مثل روایت کی ہے ( یعنی: «عن زياد بن علاقة، عن المغيرة» کے طریق سے ) اور بعض نے اسے «عن سفيان عن زياد بن علاقة قال سمعت رجلا يحدث عند المغيرة بن شعبة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم» کی سند سے روایت کی ہے۔
