Qabisah bin Hulb narrated that his father said: When Allah's Messenger would lead us in Salat he would turn (to leave) from both sides, on his right and on his left.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ قَبِيصَةَ بْنِ هُلْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَؤُمُّنَا فَيَنْصَرِفُ عَلَى جَانِبَيْهِ جَمِيعًا عَلَى يَمِينِهِ وَعَلَى شِمَالِهِ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَنَسٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ هُلْبٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعَلَيْهِ الْعَمَلُ عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ يَنْصَرِفُ عَلَى أَيِّ جَانِبَيْهِ شَاءَ إِنْ شَاءَ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَإِنْ شَاءَ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ صَحَّ الْأَمْرَانِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيُرْوَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنْ كَانَتْ حَاجَتُهُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ أَخَذَ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ حَاجَتُهُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ أَخَذَ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ .

ہلب رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی الله علیہ وسلم ہماری امامت فرماتے ( تو سلام پھیرنے کے بعد ) اپنے دونوں طرف پلٹتے تھے ( کبھی ) دائیں اور ( کبھی ) بائیں۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- ہلب رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث حسن ہے، ۲- اس باب میں عبداللہ بن مسعود، انس، عبداللہ بن عمرو، اور ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۳- اہل علم کا اسی پر عمل ہے کہ امام اپنے جس جانب چاہے پلٹ کر بیٹھے چاہے تو دائیں طرف اور چاہے تو بائیں طرف، نبی اکرم صلی الله علیہ وسلم سے دونوں ہی باتیں ثابت ہیں ۱؎ اور علی بن ابی طالب رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں اگر آپ کی ضرورت دائیں طرف ہوتی تو دائیں طرف پلٹتے اور بائیں طرف ہوتی تو بائیں طرف پلٹتے۔
