حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيِّ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ صَنَعَ لَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ طَعَامًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَدَعَانَا وَسَقَانَا مِنَ الْخَمْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَخَذَتِ الْخَمْرُ مِنَّا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَقَدَّمُونِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَرَأْتُ قُلْ يَأَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ لَا أَعْبُدُ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَنَحْنُ نَعْبُدُ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى:‏‏‏‏ يَأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لا تَقْرَبُوا الصَّلاةَ وَأَنْتُمْ سُكَارَى حَتَّى تَعْلَمُوا مَا تَقُولُونَ سورة النساء آية 43 ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Urdu Translation

علی بن ابی طالب رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   عبدالرحمٰن بن عوف رضی الله عنہ نے ہمارے لیے کھانا تیار کیا، پھر ہمیں بلا کر کھلایا اور شراب پلائی۔ شراب نے ہماری عقلیں ماؤف کر دیں، اور اسی دوران نماز کا وقت آ گیا، تو لوگوں نے مجھے ( امامت کے لیے ) آگے بڑھا دیا، میں نے پڑھا «قل يا أيها الكافرون لا أعبد ما تعبدون ونحن نعبد ما تعبدون» ”اے نبی! کہہ دیجئیے: کافرو! جن کی تم عبادت کرتے ہو میں ان کی عبادت نہیں کرتا، اور ہم اسی کو پوجتے ہیں جنہیں تم پوجتے ہو“، تو اللہ تعالیٰ نے آیت «يا أيها الذين آمنوا لا تقربوا الصلاة وأنتم سكارى حتى تعلموا ما تقولون» ”اے ایمان والو! جب تم نشے میں مست ہو، تو نماز کے قریب بھی نہ جاؤ جب تک کہ اپنی بات کو سمجھنے نہ لگو“ ( النساء: ۴۳ ) ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح غریب ہے۔

English Translation

Narrated Abu 'Abdur-Rahman As-Sulami: that 'Ali bin Abi Talib said: 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf prepared some food for which he invited us, and he gave us some wine to drink. The wine began to affect us when it was time for Salat. So they encouraged me (to lead) and I recited: 'Say: O you disbelievers! I do not worship what you worship, and we worship what you worship' - so Allah, Most High, revealed: O you who believe! Do not approach Salat when you are in a drunken state until you know what you are saying (4:43).
