Samurah narrated regarding the saying of Allah, Most High: And his progeny, them We made survivors (37:77).' The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Ham, Sam and Yafith - with (the letter) Tha.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ابْنُ عَثْمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جَنْدَبٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ:‏‏‏‏ وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاقِينَ سورة الصافات آية 77 قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَامٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَسَامٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيَافِثُ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏كَذَا قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ يُقَالُ:‏‏‏‏ يَافِتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيَافِثُ بِالتَّاءِ وَالثَّاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيُقَالُ:‏‏‏‏ يَفِثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ.

سمرہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اللہ تعالیٰ کے قول «وجعلنا ذريته هم الباقين» ”ہم نے نوح ہی کی اولاد کو باقی رکھا“ ( الصافات: ۷۷ ) ، کی تفسیر میں فرمایا: ” ( نوح کے تین بیٹے ) حام، سام اور یافث تھے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن غریب ہے، ہم اسے صرف سعید بن بشیر کی روایت سے ہی جانتے ہیں، ۲- یافت «ت» سے اور یافث «ث» سے دونوں طرح سے کہا جاتا ہے «یفث» بھی کہا جاتا ہے۔
