Narrated `Umar bin Al-Khattab: The Prophet said, The (reward of) deeds depend on intentions, and every person will get the reward according to what he intends. So, whoever migrated for Allah and His Apostle, then his migration will be for Allah and His Apostle, and whoever migrated for worldly benefits or for marrying a woman, then his migration will be for what he migrated for. حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَقَّاصٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : الْأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّةِ ، وَلِامْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى ، فَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ لِدُنْيَا يُصِيبُهَا أَوِ امْرَأَةٍ يَتَزَوَّجُهَا فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى مَا هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِ .

ہم سے محمد بن کثیر نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے سفیان بن عیینہ نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے یحییٰ بن سعید نے بیان کیا، ان سے محمد بن ابراہیم تیمی نے، ان سے علقمہ بن وقاص لیثی نے، کہا کہ میں نے عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنا کہ   نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”اعمال کا مدار نیت پر ہے اور ہر شخص کو اس کی نیت کے مطابق پھل ملتا ہے۔ پس جس کی ہجرت اللہ اور اس کے رسول کے لیے ہو، وہ اللہ اور اس کے رسول کے لیے سمجھی جائے گی اور جس کی ہجرت دنیا کے لیے ہو گی یا کسی عورت سے شادی کرنے کے لیے تو یہ ہجرت محض اسی کے لیے ہو گی جس کی نیت سے اس نے ہجرت کی ہے۔“
