Narrated Jabir: (Once) the Prophet said, Have you got carpets? I replied, Whence can we get carpets? He said, But you shall soon have carpets. I used to say to my wife, Remove your carpets from my sight, but she would say, Didn't the Prophet tell you that you would soon have carpets? So I would give up my request.

حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : هَلْ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَنْمَاطٍ ؟ ، قُلْتُ : وَأَنَّى يَكُونُ لَنَا الْأَنْمَاطُ ، قَالَ : أَمَا إِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ لَكُمُ الْأَنْمَاطُ فَأَنَا أَقُولُ لَهَا يَعْنِي امْرَأَتَهُ أَخِّرِي عَنِّي أَنْمَاطَكِ ، فَتَقُولُ : أَلَمْ يَقُلِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ لَكُمُ الْأَنْمَاطُ فَأَدَعُهَا .

ہم سے عمرو بن عباس نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے عبدالرحمٰن بن مہدی نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے سفیان ثوری نے بیان کیا، ان سے محمد بن منکدر نے اور ان سے جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ   ( ان کی شادی کے موقع پر ) نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے دریافت فرمایا کیا تمہارے پاس قالین ہیں؟ میں نے عرض کیا، ہمارے پاس قالین کہاں؟ ( ہم غریب لوگ ہیں ) اس پر نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”یاد رکھو ایک وقت آئے گا کہ تمہارے پاس عمدہ عمدہ قالین ہوں گے۔“ اب جب میں اس سے ( اپنی بیوی سے ) کہتا ہوں کہ اپنے قالین ہٹا لے تو وہ کہتی ہے کہ کیا نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے تم سے نہیں فرمایا تھا کہ ایک وقت آئے گا جب تمہارے پاس قالین ہوں گے۔ چنانچہ میں انہیں وہیں رہنے دیتا ہوں ( اور چپ ہو جاتا ہوں ) ۔
