Baab Ghazwat Ke Bayan Main

حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى , أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ , عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ , عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ , عَنْ سَالِمٍ , عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ , قَالَ : وَأَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ طَاوُسٍ , عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنِ خَالِدٍ , عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ , قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ عَلَى حَفْصَةَ وَنَوْسَاتُهَا تَنْطُفُ , قُلْتُ : قَدْ كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِ النَّاسِ مَا تَرَيْنَ فَلَمْ يُجْعَلْ لِي مِنَ الْأَمْرِ شَيْءٌ , فَقَالَتْ : الْحَقْ فَإِنَّهُمْ يَنْتَظِرُونَكَ وَأَخْشَى أَنْ يَكُونَ فِي احْتِبَاسِكَ عَنْهُمْ فُرْقَةٌ , فَلَمْ تَدَعْهُ حَتَّى ذَهَبَ فَلَمَّا تَفَرَّقَ النَّاسُ خَطَبَ مُعَاوِيَةُ , قَالَ : مَنْ كَانَ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ فِي هَذَا الْأَمْرِ فَلْيُطْلِعْ لَنَا قَرْنَهُ فَلَنَحْنُ أَحَقُّ بِهِ مِنْهُ وَمِنْ أَبِيهِ , قَالَ حَبِيبُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ : فَهَلَّا أَجَبْتَهُ , قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : فَحَلَلْتُ حُبْوَتِي وَهَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَقُولَ أَحَقُّ بِهَذَا الْأَمْرِ مِنْكَ مَنْ قَاتَلَكَ وَأَبَاكَ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ , فَخَشِيتُ أَنْ أَقُولَ كَلِمَةً تُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ الْجَمْعِ وَتَسْفِكُ الدَّمَ وَيُحْمَلُ عَنِّي غَيْرُ ذَلِكَ , فَذَكَرْتُ مَا أَعَدَّ اللَّهُ فِي الْجِنَانِ , قَالَ حَبِيبٌ : حُفِظْتَ وَعُصِمْتَ . قَالَ مَحْمُودٌ : عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ : وَنَوْسَاتُهَا .

Urdu Translation

مجھ سے ابراہیم بن موسیٰ نے بیان کیا ‘ کہا ہم کو ہشام نے خبر دی ‘ انہیں معمر بن راشد نے ‘ انہیں زہری نے ‘ انہیں سالم بن عبداللہ نے اور ان سے ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا اور معمر بن راشد نے بیان کیا کہ مجھے عبداللہ بن طاؤس نے خبر دی ‘ ان سے عکرمہ بن خالد نے اور ان سے ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ میں حفصہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے یہاں گیا تو ان کے سر کے بالوں سے پانی کے قطرات ٹپک رہے تھے۔ میں نے ان سے کہا کہ تم دیکھتی ہو لوگوں نے کیا کیا اور مجھے تو کچھ بھی حکومت نہیں ملی۔ حفصہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہا کہ مسلمانوں کے مجمع میں جاؤ ‘ لوگ تمہارا انتظار کر رہے ہیں۔ کہیں ایسا نہ ہو کہ تمہارا موقع پر نہ پہنچنا مزید پھوٹ کا سبب بن جائے۔ آخر حفصہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے اصرار پر عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہ گئے۔ پھر جب لوگ وہاں سے چلے گئے تو معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے خطبہ دیا اور کہا کہ خلافت کے مسئلہ پر جسے گفتگو کرنی ہو وہ ذرا اپنا سر تو اٹھائے۔ یقیناً ہم اس سے زیادہ خلافت کے حقدار ہیں اور اس کے باپ سے بھی زیادہ۔ حبیب بن مسلمہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے اس پر کہا کہ آپ نے وہیں اس کا جواب کیوں نہیں دیا؟ عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا کہ میں نے اسی وقت اپنے لنگی کھولی ( جواب دینے کو تیار ہوا ) اور ارادہ کر چکا تھا کہ ان سے کہوں کہ تم سے زیادہ خلافت کا حقدار وہ ہے جس نے تم سے اور تمہارے باپ سے اسلام کے لیے جنگ کی تھی۔ لیکن پھر میں ڈرا کہ کہیں میری اس بات سے مسلمانوں میں اختلاف بڑھ نہ جائے اور خونریزی نہ ہو جائے اور میری بات کا مطلب میری منشا کے خلاف نہ لیا جانے لگے۔ اس کے بجائے مجھے جنت کی وہ نعمتیں یاد آ گئیں جو اللہ تعالیٰ نے ( صبر کرنے والوں کے لیے ) جنت میں تیار کر رکھی ہیں۔ حبیب ابن ابی مسلم نے کہا کہ اچھا ہوا آپ محفوظ رہے اور بچا لیے گئے ‘ آفت میں نہیں پڑے۔ محمود نے عبدالرزاق سے ( «نسواتها‏.» کے بجائے لفظ ) «ونوساتها‏.» بیان کیا ( جس کے معنی چوٹی کے ہیں جو عورتیں سر پر بال گوندھتے وقت نکالتی ہیں ) ۔

English Translation

Narrated `Ikrima bin Khalid: Ibn `Umar said, I went to Hafsa while water was dribbling from her twined braids. I said, 'The condition of the people is as you see, and no authority has been given to me.' Hafsa said, (to me), 'Go to them, and as they (i.e. the people) are waiting for you, and I am afraid your absence from them will produce division amongst them.' So Hafsa did not leave Ibn `Umar till we went to them. When the people differed. Muawiya addressed the people saying, 'If anybody wants to say anything in this matter of the Caliphate, he should show up and not conceal himself, for we are more rightful to be a Caliph than he and his father. On that, Habib bin Masalama said (to Ibn `Umar), Why don't you reply to him (i.e. Muawiya)? `Abdullah bin `Umar said, I untied my garment that was going round my back and legs while I was sitting and was about to say, 'He who fought against you and against your father for the sake of Islam, is more rightful to be a Caliph,' but I was afraid that my statement might produce differences amongst the people and cause bloodshed, and my statement might be interpreted not as I intended. (So I kept quiet) remembering what Allah has prepared in the Gardens of Paradise (for those who are patient and prefer the Hereafter to this worldly life). Habib said, You did what kept you safe and secure (i.e. you were wise in doing so).
