Narrated Anas: Allah's Apostle said, None of you should long for death because of a calamity that had befallen him, and if he cannot, but long for death, then he should say, 'O Allah! Let me live as long as life is better for me, and take my life if death is better for me.'

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ سَلَامٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لَا يَتَمَنَّيَنَّ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمُ الْمَوْتَ لِضُرٍّ نَزَلَ بِهِ ، فَإِنْ كَانَ لَا بُدَّ مُتَمَنِّيًا لِلْمَوْتِ ، فَلْيَقُلْ : اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيِنِي مَا كَانَتِ الْحَيَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي ، وَتَوَفَّنِي إِذَا كَانَتِ الْوَفَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي .

ہم سے محمد بن سلام نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم کو اسماعیل بن علیہ نے خبر دی، انہوں نے کہا ہمیں عبدالعزیز بن صہیب نے بتایا اور ان سے انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”تم میں سے کوئی شخص کسی تکلیف کی وجہ سے جو اسے ہونے لگی ہو، موت کی تمنا نہ کرے۔ اگر موت کی تمنا ضروری ہی ہو جائے تو یہ کہے کہ اے اللہ! جب تک میرے لیے زندگی بہتر ہے مجھے زندہ رکھیو اور جب میرے لیے موت بہتر ہو تو مجھے اٹھا لیجیو۔“
