حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَهْدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي عَوْنٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا صَالِحٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ أُهْدِيَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حُلَّةُ سِيَرَاءَ فَبَعَثَ بِهَا إِلَيَّ فَلَبِسْتُهَا فَعَرَفْتُ الْغَضَبَ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أَبْعَثْ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَلْبَسَهَا إِنَّمَا بَعَثْتُ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتُشَقِّقَهَا خُمُرًا بَيْنَ النِّسَاءِ

Urdu Translation

  عبدالرحمان بن مہدی نے کہا : ہمیں شعبہ نے ابو عون سے حدیث بیان کی ، کہا : میں نے ابو صالح سے سنا ، وہ حضرت علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے حدیث سنارہے تھے ، کہا : رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو ایک ریشمی حلہ ہدیہ کیا گیا ، آپ نے وہ میرے پاس بھیج دیا ، میں نے اسکو پہن لیا ، پھر میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے چہرے پر غصہ محسوس کیا ، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا : " میں نے یہ تمھارے پاس اس لئے نہیں بھیجا تھا کہ تم اس کو پہن لو ، میں نے تمہارے پاس اس لئے بھیجا تھا کہ تم اس کو کاٹ کر عورتوں میں دوپٹے بانٹ دو ۔ "

English Translation

Ali reported: A silk cloak was presented to Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ). and he sent it to me and I wore it. but then found some sign of disapproval upon his face, whereupon he said: I did not send it to you that you wear it, but I sent it to you so that you might tear it and make out head dream for your women.
