Sahih Muslim 5897 - The Book Of Dreams

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، جَمِيعًا عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ - وَاللَّفْظُ لِابْنِ أَبِي عُمَرَ - حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ أَرَى الرُّؤْيَا أُعْرَى مِنْهَا، غَيْرَ أَنِّي لَا أُزَمَّلُ، حَتَّى لَقِيتُ أَبَا قَتَادَةَ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «الرُّؤْيَا مِنَ اللهِ، وَالْحُلْمُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ، فَإِذَا حَلَمَ أَحَدُكُمْ حُلْمًا يَكْرَهُهُ فَلْيَنْفُثْ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ثَلَاثًا، وَلْيَتَعَوَّذْ بِاللهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا، فَإِنَّهَا لَنْ تَضُرَّهُ»

Urdu Translation

  عمرو ناقد ، اسحٰق بن ابراہیم اور ابن ابی عمر ، سب نے ابن عیینہ سے روایت کی ، الفاظ ابن ابی عمر کے ہیں ، کہا : ہمیں سفیان نے زہریسے ، انھوں نے ابو سلمہ سے روایت کی ، کہا : میں خواب دیکھتا تھا اور اس سے بخار اور کپکپی جیسی کیفیت میں مبتلا ہو جا تا تھا ، بس میں چادرنہیں اوڑھتا تھا یہاں تک کہ میں حضرت قتادہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے ملا اور انھیں یہ بات بتا ئی تو انھوں نے کہا : میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سنا ، آپ نے فر مارہے تھے : " ( سچا ) خواب اللہ کی طرف سے ہے اور ( برا ) خواب شیطان کی طرف سے ، تم میں سے کو ئی شخص جب ایسا خواب دیکھے جو اسے برالگے تو وہ اپنی بائیں جانب تین بار تھوک دے اور ( جو اس نے دیکھا ) اس کے شر سے اللہ کی پناہ طلب کرے تو وہ اسے ہرگز نقصان نہیں پہنچائے گا ۔ "

English Translation

Abu Salama reported: I used to see dreams (and was so much perturbed) that I began to quiver and have temperature, but did not cover myself with a mantle. I met Abu Qatada and made a mention of that to him. He said: I heard Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: A good vision comes from Allah and a (bad) dream (hulm) from devil. So when one of you sees a bad dream (hulm) which he does not like, he should spit on his left side thrice and seek refuge with Allah from its evil; then it will not harm him.
