Sunan Abu Dawood in English
Imam Abu Dawood gathered around 500,000 hadiths but only around 5,200 are present in this collection. However, it is regarded as the fourth in the strength of their six main hadith collections. He did 20 years of hard work to gather hadiths. In addition, he made several journeys to meet most of the foremost traditionalists of his time and acquired from them the most reliable hadiths, quoting sources through which they reached him.
In the books, there are discussions regarding all the problems or confusion that the people had in the earlier days of Islam. This book also has the acts of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the policies and rules that were supported by them.
In the book, Sunan Abu Dawood also mentions that if he leaves a hadith without any comment or suggestion, it must be sound and there are some particular hadith that are more authentic than the others.
There were approximately 500,000 hadith compiled by Abu Dawood out of which only 4,800 were written in his collection. The compilation of the hadith and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was carried out with extreme precautions.
There was a set of rules that were implemented to check the authenticity of the hadith. It took Abu Dawood 20 long years to collect and compile the hadith.
The finalization of the book meant that these 4,800 hadith were positive, promoting brotherhood, and guiding to the right path, and were not negative at all.
He also traveled a lot during the compilation to meet the source of the hadith to verify whether the hadith was reliable or not.
The content of this book entails methods of purification, Zakat, prayer, making promises, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) sayings regarding Paradise, marriage, divorce, fasting, and much more.
