Narrated Az-Zuhri: When Uthman placed his property at at-Taif and intended to settle there, he prayed four rak'ahs. The rulers after him followed the same practice.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ يُونُسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَمَّا اتَّخَذَ عُثْمَانُ الْأَمْوَالَ بِالطَّائِفِ وَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُقِيمَ بِهَا صَلَّى أَرْبَعًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِهِ الْأَئِمَّةُ بَعْدَهُ .

زہری کہتے ہیں   جب عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ نے طائف میں اپنی جائیداد بنائی اور وہاں قیام کرنے کا ارادہ کیا تو وہاں چار رکعتیں پڑھیں، وہ کہتے ہیں: پھر اس کے بعد ائمہ نے اسی کو اپنا لیا۔
