Al-Hasan reported that Umar asked: Which of your knows what share the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم had given to the grandfather from the estate? Maqil ibn Yasar said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم gave him a sixth. He asked: Along with whom? He replied: I do not know. He said: You do not know; what is the use then?

حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ خَالِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ يُونُسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْحَسَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ عُمَرَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَيُّكُمْ يَعْلَمُ مَا وَرَّثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْجَدَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ مَعْقِلُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَا وَرَّثَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ السُّدُسَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَعَ مَنْ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا أَدْرِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا دَرَيْتَ فَمَا تُغْنِي إِذًا ؟ .

حسن بصری کہتے ہیں کہ   عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے پوچھا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے دادا کو ترکے میں سے جو دلایا ہے اسے تم میں کون جانتا ہے؟ معقل بن یسار رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: میں ( جانتا ہوں ) رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس کو چھٹا حصہ دلایا ہے، انہوں نے پوچھا: کس وارث کے ساتھ؟ وہ کہنے لگے: یہ تو معلوم نہیں، اس پر انہوں نے کہا: تمہیں پوری بات معلوم نہیں پھر کیا فائدہ تمہارے جاننے کا؟ ۔
