حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْبَرِيدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ اجْتَمَعْتُ أَنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْعَبَّاسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَفَاطِمَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَزَيْدُ بْنُ حَارِثَةَ عند النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنْ رَأَيْتَ أَنْ تُوَلِّيَنِي حَقَّنَا مِنْ هَذَا الْخُمُسِ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَقْسِمْهُ حَيَاتَكَ كَيْ لَا يُنَازِعَنِي أَحَدٌ بَعْدَكَ فَافْعَلْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَفَعَلَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَقَسَمْتُهُ حَيَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ وَلَّانِيهِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَتْ آخِرُ سَنَةٍ مِنْ سِنِي عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ أَتَاهُ مَالٌ كَثِيرٌ فَعَزَلَ حَقَّنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيَّ فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ بِنَا عَنْهُ الْعَامَ غِنًى وَبِالْمُسْلِمِينَ إِلَيْهِ حَاجَةٌ فَارْدُدْهُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ لَمْ يَدْعُنِي إِلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ بَعْدَ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَقِيتُ الْعَبَّاسَ بَعْدَ مَا خَرَجْتُ مِنْ عِنْدِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا عَلِيُّ حَرَمْتَنَا الْغَدَاةَ شَيْئًا لَا يُرَدُّ عَلَيْنَا أَبَدًا وَكَانَ رَجُلًا دَاهِيًا.

Urdu Translation

عبدالرحمٰن بن ابی لیلیٰ کہتے ہیں: میں نے علی رضی اللہ عنہ کو یہ کہتے ہوئے سنا ہے کہ   میں، عباس، فاطمہ اور زید بن حارثہ رضی اللہ عنہم چاروں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس جمع ہوئے، میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! اگر آپ مناسب سمجھیں تو ہمارا جو حق خمس میں کتاب اللہ کے موافق ہے وہ ہمارے اختیار میں دے دیجئیے تاکہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے نہ رہنے کے بعد مجھ سے کوئی جھگڑا نہ کرے، تو آپ نے ایسا ہی کیا، پھر میں جب تک رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم زندہ رہے اسے تقسیم کرتا رہا پھر ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ نے مجھے اس کا اختیار سونپا، یہاں تک کہ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کی خلافت کے آخری سال میں آپ کے پاس بہت سا مال آیا، آپ نے اس میں سے ہمارا حق الگ کیا، پھر مجھے بلا بھیجا، میں نے کہا: اس سال ہم کو مال کی ضرورت نہیں جب کہ دوسرے مسلمان اس کے حاجت مند ہیں، آپ ان کو دے دیجئیے، عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان کو دے دیا، عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کے بعد پھر کسی نے مجھے اس مال ( یعنی خمس الخمس ) کے لینے کے لیے نہیں بلایا، عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس سے نکلنے کے بعد میں عباس رضی اللہ عنہ سے ملا، تو وہ کہنے لگے: علی! تم نے ہم کو آج ایسی چیز سے محروم کر دیا جو پھر کبھی لوٹ کر نہ آئے گی ( یعنی اب کبھی یہ حصہ ہم کو نہ ملے گا ) اور وہ ایک سمجھدار آدمی تھے ( انہوں نے جو کہا تھا وہی ہوا ) ۔

English Translation

Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib: I, al-Abbas, Fatimah and Zayd ibn Harithah gathered with the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and I said: Messenger of Allah, if you think to assign us our right (portion) in this fifth ( of the booty) as mentioned in the Book of Allah, and this I may divide during your lifetime so that no one may dispute me after you, then do it. He said: He did that. He said: I divided it during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. Abu Bakr then assigned it to me. During the last days of the caliphate of Umar a good deal of property came to him and took out our portion. I said to him: We are well to do this year; but the Muslims are needy, so return it to them. He, therefore, returned it to them. No one called me after Umar. I met al-Abbas when I came out from Umar. He said: Ali, today you have deprived us of a thing that will never be returned to us. He was indeed a man of wisdom.
