حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ:‏‏‏‏ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَدْرَكَهُ وَهُوَ فِي رَكْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ يَحْلِفُ بِأَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَنْهَاكُمْ أَنْ تَحْلِفُوا بِآبَائِكُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَمَنْ كَانَ حَالِفًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلْيَحْلِفْ بِاللَّهِ أَوْ لِيَسْكُتْ .

Urdu Translation

عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے انہیں اس حال میں پایا کہ وہ ایک قافلہ میں تھے اور اپنے باپ کی قسم کھا رہے تھے تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اللہ تعالیٰ تمہیں اپنے باپ دادا کی قسم کھانے سے روکتا ہے اگر کسی کو قسم کھانی ہی ہے تو اللہ کی قسم کھائے ورنہ خاموش رہے ۔

English Translation

Narrated Ibn Umar: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم found Umar al-Khattab in a caravan while he was swearing by his father. So he said: Allah forbids you to swear by forefathers. If anyone swears, he must swear by Allah or keep silence.
